New World Record For Fastest Rubik’s Cube Solve: 3.13 Seconds

New World Record For Fastest Rubik's Cube Solve: 3.13 Seconds

This is a video of Rubik’s Cuber (Cubist?) Max Park beating the previous Rubik’s Cube speed solving record of 3.47 seconds (which stood for 4.5 years) with a blistering 3.13 second finish. For reference, the Rubik’s Cube I’ve had since I was 7 remains unsolved, so my personal best, which has yet to be set, is already in the decades. So yeah, 3.13 seconds is pretty quick.

Motorcycle Racer Passing At 180+MPH During Isle Of Man Race

Motorcycle Racer Passing At 180+MPH During Isle Of Man Race

This is a video of Northern Irish speed racer Michael Dunlop blasting down a straightaway during one of the recent Isle of Man TT races at 180+MPH. You can hear him coming and going the whole time, but you can only see him for like three seconds. 180MPH on a motorcycle? That’s insane. There’s no getting put back together again from a wipeout at that speed, I don’t care if the king used Indeed to hire all new horses and men.

Skateboarder Makes Smoothest Recovery Ever After Fall

Skateboarder Makes Smoothest Recovery Ever After Fall

Note: I originally posted this back in 2020 but I saw it going around the internet again so I’m dredging it back up like terrifying deepwater fish because the article I wrote was so good I’m lazy.

This is a video of a skateboarder wiping out after a jump and performing the smoothest tumbling backflip recovery I’ve ever seen in my 800+ years on this planet. “Dammit, not with the undead warlock sh!t again.” I’ll have you know the skateboard was invented two days after I turned 730. I remember it well because I was still blowing out my birthday candles when I heard the news.

Popping Balloons In The Loudest And Quietest Rooms

Popping Balloons In The Loudest And Quietest Rooms

This is a video of science lover James Orgill from Youtube channel The Action Lab popping balloons in the loudest and quietest rooms at 3M’s Innovation Center. The loudest room is a reverberation chamber (is that what Darth Vader hung out in?) that reflects maximum sound waves, while the quietest room is an anechoic chamber that absorbs as much sound as possible. It was pretty neat to hear. James also tests the rooms by blowing an air horn and a whistle, which gave me a headache. Thanks a lot, James.

Keep going for the video, popping starts at 2:42 (the video should be queued there already).

Ferrofluid Drum Synthesizer Looks Like You’re Creating A New Life Form

Ferrofluid Drum Synthesizer Looks Like You're Creating A New Life Form

This is a video of a Delton8 drum and sampler synthesizer that’s been built into a custom case with the addition of a ferrofluid suspended in a clear window that moves to the beat you’re creating. That’s wild, it looks like it’s about to come to life. And maybe with a fresh beat it actually will. *beatboxing* Anything? “Just a ton of spit.” Now I’m dehydrated, tell me you brought orange slices.

Riding A Side-By-Side Tandem Mountain Bike

Riding A Side-By-Side Tandem Mountain Bike

Built by mountain biker and experimental bike maker Sam Pilgrim (previously), this is a video of a side-by-side tandem mountain bike where both riders get a pair of pedals and handlebars, but only the right-hand rider can steer and use the brakes. Obviously, if you’re a control freak, you’ll want to ride on the right side. But if you’re a lazy layabout like me who doesn’t care if they get hurt as long as they can chug a beer in the process, then the left side is your answer.
