Robotic Spy Hippo Provides Up-Close-And-Personal Footage Of Wild Hippo Herd
This is a video of and from a robotic spy hippopotamus baby built by John Downer Productions (previous spy animals) to infiltrate and film a bloat/pod/herd of wild hippopotamuses, including some exciting underwater action. Fascinating! Did you know hippos don’t swim but actually walk/run along the bottom of the water? I did. Well, okay — I didn’t know, I just assumed because they’re so heavy they had no other choice.

This is a digitized 35mm film from a car cruising the Las Vegas strip in 1975. Those were the days, weren’t they? No clue, I wasn’t even a worried look on my dad’s face yet. It would have been cool to experience Las Vegas back in its heyday though. Especially those 49 cent giant shrimp cocktails. I would have ordered six of those and taken them back to my room to share with my escort. “Just like Frank Sinatra would have done.” The rat doesn’t fall far from the pack.

Physics Professor Demonstrates Inertia With Fun Experiments
These are two TikTok videos of Texas A&M University physics and astronomy professor Dr. Tatiana Erukhimova demonstrating inertia (the property of an object to resist change in its motion) with two experiments: one involving pounding a knife through a skewered potato with a rubber mallet, and another dropping an egg into a cup of water after smacking the plate and toilet paper roll it’s resting on. Physics are phun! At least that’s what my high school physics teacher wrote on the white board the first day of class. Phailing the class proved to be not that phun though. ‘Maybe a phuture in physics just isn’t phor me’ I remember thinking to myselph after bombing the phinal. I didn’t do that hot in English that semester either.

The Incredibly Unusual Sounds Of A Finnish Willow Grouse
This is a video of a Finnish Willow Grouse (aka Riekko Mukana) making the sounds that it makes. I’ve heard the bird’s vocalization described as “annoying” and “unnerving”, but it’s really just more unusual than anything, not unlike its choice of mascara. Now I’m not saying I’d want to wake up to the sound of one, but I don’t want to wake up to the sound of a rooster crowing either. Honesty, I don’t want to wake up to the sound of any bird, I just want to sleep in until I naturally wake up in time for happy hour.

These are a bunch of very worthwhile videos of musician GLASYS (aka Gil Assayas) creating live MIDI art by pressing the corresponding keys on a keyboard to create different shapes as time passes, with a musical byproduct. It reminded me of the songs created by the MIDI shapes of the United States I posted last week. Was that just last this week? Feels like ages ago. Now do a tasteful nude!
