A Chinese Tianlong-3 rocket was recently undergoing a stationary engine test when it became unmoored from the test platform and took to the skies. “But I thought this is what you wanted!” I imagine it thinking to itself. The rocket blasted off beautifully before its onboard computers were remotely shut down and it crashed into the mountains about a mile from the test site. There were no injuries reported, as the area was evacuated prior to the test. But the question remains — did it pass its test? Because I would argue with flying colors.
