Crazy, I was just complaining about how much I hate folding laundry in the last post, and what should appear but a laundry-folding robot! I’m going to buy a lotto ticket. Or, more accurately, $80 in losing scratch-offs. This is a video demonstration of Isaac 1, a housekeeping robot developed by Weave Robotics. He looks like Baymax in the face. I would have gone with Rosey the Robot myself, but I’m not making robots, only love. And, okay, poor decisions. Isaac is capable of general tidying (picking up objects and putting them away), laundry-folding, and sofa and bed-making. But how are his pillow fort skills? While full autonomy is the eventual goal, Weave Robotics admits that a human operator may need to step in to help if Isaac finds himself in a jam. But will that operator see me naked, and, follow up, does that cost extra or provide a discount? Available for purchase for $8,000 or rented for $449/month, I would strongly recommend the rental, that way you’ll only be out $449 when you realize Isaac taking six hours to perform 15-minutes of work probably isn’t worth the car payment.
