This is a video of Jack Mack of appropriately named Jack Mack Woodturning producing a walnut bowl that appears to spin clockwise AND counterclockwise simultaneously. The illusion is made possible by adjusting the lathe’s RPM so it matches the frame rate of the camera. That’s cool, but with all those holes that bowl is going to suck for eating cereal.

This is a great example of the “wagon-wheel effect”, rather than spokes, the bowl features increasingly larger holes as it moves outward into the rim. This series of holes creates a stroboscopic effect that makes it look like the center is moving in the opposite direction from the rest of the bowl.
