The Loudest Shouter In The World: 122.4dB

Because everybody is good at something, and sometimes that thing is just being loud (my nieces and nephews are great at this), Guinness World Records recently recognized 58-year-old air conditioner cleaner and honorary Canberra, Australia town cryer Joseph McGrail-Bateup as the loudest shouter in the world. Joseph was recorded at 122.4dB shouting “NOW!”, beating the previous record of 121.7dB set by Northern Ireland schoolteacher Annalisa Flanagan in 1994, who shouted “QUIET!” (I would have hated to be in her class). The Guinness World Record for loudest non-word scream is 129dB, set by British woman Jill Drake in 2000. For reference, a chainsaw heard at 3-feet is 110dB, pain begins at 125dB, and my neighbor could easily beat all these records. Somebody call Guinness, because the house shakes and my vision blurs whenever she calls her kids inside.
