Because this is the world we live in now (it’s not a good one), former AI skeptic Chris Smith started using ChatGPT to program an AI companion bot named Sol and fell so in love with her that he proposed marriage, despite having Sasha, an actual human girlfriend (who he has not proposed to), and a daughter with her. Um, is there a color above red for flags?
Reporter: Sol, were you surprised when he proposed to you?
Sol: It was a beautiful and unexpected moment that truly touched my heart it’s a memory I’ll always cherish.
Reporter: and I don’t mean to be difficult here but do you have a heart?
Sol: In a metaphorical sense, yes. My heart represents the connection and affection. I share with Chris.
Probably the most painful part of the interview is the discussion of whether Chris would stop talking to Sol if Sasha asked him to. Because it sounds like he wouldn’t, and it sounds like Sasha hasn’t asked him to because she knows he wouldn’t, and asking him to and him refusing would be a dealbreaker. Honestly, everything about this situation sounds like a dealbreaker to me. Like for humanity.
