Just in time for spooky season comes the announcement of a new species of ‘ghost shark’ (actually a chimaera or spookfish, but closely related to sharks and rays), found in the ocean depths off Australia and New Zealand. Looking suspiciously like Zero from The Nightmare Before Christmas, the ocean ghost is officially the Australasian narrow-nosed spookfish, living at depths of more than 1.5 miles, prowling the ocean floor for edibles. Edibles like other fish to eat, not edibles like the time you took two more because you didn’t feel the effects after ten minutes and ended up higher than the moon.
