With the addition of “The Caterpillar” attachment, Dutch artist Theo Jansen’s Strandbeest kinetic walking sculptures can now tow a human along the beach. How about that! Mount a metal detector to that thing and we’ll be unearthing watches and coins in no time. Cha-ching! I still remember the first time I went treasure hunting at the beach. “What did you find?” A whole bunch of cigarette butts. And — AND — “Gold doubloons?!” A dead horseshoe crab.
