The Evolution Of The World’s Tallest Buildings, Visualized

This is a fun visualization of the world’s tallest buildings from 1901 – 2021. I was actually unaware of the two upcoming world’s tallest buildings: the Jeddah Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and the Dubai Creek Tower in Dubai, but after a little research I learned the Jeddah Tower project has actually been on hold since early 2018. Allegedly construction is supposed to resume this year, but we’ll see. If you look at the Wikipedia page I linked to you can see a rendering of its partially glass-floored skydeck that sits at 2,000 feet, overlooking the Red Sea. That is nuts. I think it’s insane we’ve built anything over a half mile tall, but that’s just me and I can’t even walk a horizontal half mile without throwing a fit and making somebody give me a piggyback. Ha, I remember when I was a kid I used to think my the apartment building my family lived in was the tallest building in the world, and it was only like eight stories. “You were a dumb kid.” And look at me now. “You’ve blossomed into a super stupid adult.” Like an idiot flower!
