Butterfly Wings Viewed Up To 50,000X Magnification

This is ‘Nanoscapes’ a short video shot by Kristina Dutton featuring butterfly wings captured with an electron microscope at magnifications up to 50,000X. That’s some series magnification. Most of the time I wasn’t even sure what I was looking at. “Butterfly wings.” I like you, I really do, but you do make it hard sometimes. I remember in middle school my science teacher had us scrape the filth from underneath our fingernails then we all took turns examining it under a microscope. “I’ve seen worse,” I said when it was my turn, licking the sticky off my fingers from the Jolly Rancher I found on the floor.
