Come on, no whacking it with a hockey stick this time?
Boston Dynamics Atlas Robot Handling Tasks Fully Autonomously

Presumably taking a little breather from synchronized dancing, this a video of a Boston Dynamics Atlas humanoid robot completing tasks fully autonomously. That means absolutely no human intervention. Which is a relief, because I was worried robots might not be able to complete their tasks after exterminating us all. Some more details straight from Boston Dynamics:

Atlas is autonomously moving engine covers between supplier containers and a mobile sequencing dolly. The robot receives as input a list of bin locations to move parts between.

There are no prescribed or teleoperated movements; all motions are generated autonomously online. The robot is able to detect and react to changes in the environment (e.g., moving fixtures) and action failures (e.g., failure to insert the cover, tripping, environment collisions [1:24]) using a combination of vision, force, and proprioceptive sensors.

The future! “What about it?” Robots! “What about them?” Stomping all over us, and with no flying cars or personal jetpacks in sight. The Jetsons was the biggest lie ever told.
