A step in the effort to allow machines to “emote and communicate in a more lifelike way,” a collaborative team of scientists from the University of Tokyo and Harvard University have covered a robotic face with living skin. “But I want to wear your face,” I imagine the robot telling a researcher. The robotic face can smile thanks to ligament-inspired anchors beneath the skin, which can be pulled to change facial expression. I’m pretty sure this one is either “Help me,” or “You’re all going to die.”
