This is a video from a Homer, Alaska based Scenic Bear Viewing tour of the guides demonstrating what to do when a bear charges. They stress you should NOT run, but rather make loud noises and stand your ground to discourage the bear from approaching any further. Apparently bears have a natural chase instinct, and will use this “bluff charge” to get you to run so they can pursue. Besides, if you’re going to die anyways, wouldn’t you rather be remembered as a person who stood up to a bear? *raising drink* To Richard! He didn’t run. He sure sh!t his pants, but he didn’t run. I feel like the smell only made it madder.
