A Compilation Of Star Trek Warp Jump Visuals, 1979 - 2021

This is a compilation video edited together by Youtuber John DiMarco comparing the varying visual effects used in the Star Trek franchise for ships warp jumping, featuring examples from 1979 – 2021. Some more info about warp jumping and timestamps of all the movies and shows used while I warp jump to the kitchen and make myself a space sandwich:

One of the hallmarks of Star Trek’s visual aesthetic is the classic jump to warp speed. Audiences were treated to the first version of the warp jump in 1979 with the release of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. In this video, we will be doing a survey of how the warp jump effect changed over the years. Note: The Kelvin timeline and other alternate continuities are not included in this overview.

0:00 – Star Trek: The Motion Picture, 0:32 – Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, 1:02 – Star Trek III: The Search for Spock, 1:17 – Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home, 1:43 – Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, 2:00 – The Next Generation, 2:50 – Generations, 3:27 – Deep Space 9, 4:04 – First Contact, 4:27 – Voyager, 4:58 – Nemesis, 5:32 – Enterprise, 6:09 – Picard, 6:22 – Lower Decks, 7:29 – Prodigy.

Personally, I prefer the older visuals to the newer ones. But that’s just me and I’m forever telling the cashiers at Target that “They sure don’t make them like they used to.” That’s usually when they tell me I don’t look that old, and I say that’s clearly because they’ve never seen an undead warlock before. And THAT, my dear friends, is how you avoid being asked to sign up for a Target credit card every time you shop.

The Dune/Spice Girls Mashup We’ve All Been Waiting For

The Dune/Spice Girls Mashup We've All Been Waiting For

Finally, somebody did it: comedian and filmmaker Matthew Highton made a mashup video of the Spice Girls in Dune. It’s every bit as fantastic as it sounds, and I would watch a full-length two and a half hours of this, no questions. Fifteen year old me? Fifteen year old me would have watched a solid eight hours of this, two questions: what are you doing and where are your pants?

Anatolian Shepherd Dog Puppy In Training

Anatolian Shepherd Dog Puppy In Training

This is a video of a precious little Anatolian Shepherd Dog puppy in training, doing its best to guide a flock of sheep. It definitely has the walk down, and several of its charges come to investigate their guardian and give it some encouraging licks on the head. “You’re doing great,” and “Keep up the good work,” I imagine them saying. And, probably from at least one prankster sheep: “Shhhhh — I’m a wolf.”

Man Steals $8,000 Guitar By Shoving It Down His Pants

Man Steals $8,000 Guitar By Shoving It Down His Pants

Police in Aurora, Ontario are trying to identify some turd that wouldn’t flush who was caught on security camera stealing an ~$8,000 Gibson Custom Shop 60th Anniversary ’59 Les Paul Standard guitar from a music store by shoving it down his baggy pants. From what I could gather, this master criminal learned the technique from watching Youtube videos, because I’ve included security cam footage of two other scumbags that came before him doing the same thing. Obviously, there is nothing rock and roll about this. Trashing a hotel room? Absolutely. Stealing a guitar by jamming it down your sweatpants? Absolutely not. The rock gods do not look favorably on this sort of behavior, and there’s no doubt in my mind he’ll be cursed with a life of breaking strings and sucking to play even the most basic chords, just like he always has. Honestly, I don’t have room in my pants for a guitar *wink* but this guy could have probably could have fit a whole drum set too.

Keep going for the videos. Also, if you recognize this guy, totally rat on him.

Meat Loaf Nailing The National Anthem At The ’94 MLB All-Star Game

Meat Loaf Nailing The National Anthem At The '94 MLB All-Star Game

The Meat Loaf has left the building. I remember listening to Bat Out Of Hell regularly growing up because my dad had it on a CD in the six-disc changer in the trunk of the Lincoln Town Car. I wasn’t particularly in love with it all at the time (although I certainly appreciated some of it) but, just like a fine meat loaf, it grew better with age. My age in this case. It’s weird, I’ve been singing ‘You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth’ to my girlfriend for the past couple weeks after it came to me out of the blue, and I have received some kisses for it. I guess I have Meat Loaf and songwriter Jim Steinman to thank for that. I’ll have to try singing ‘I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)’ tonight and see where it gets me! Rest in peace, Mr. Loaf.

Keep going for the video of Meat Loaf bravely performing the National Anthem at the ’94 MLB All-Star Game with a Terminator standing behind him, as well as some of my personal favorite bangers including ‘You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth (Hot Summer Night)’, ‘Paradise By The Dashboard Light’, ‘Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad’, ‘Heaven Can Wait’, ‘I’d Do Anything for Love (But I Won’t Do That)’, and ‘It’s All Coming Back To Me Now’.

Crushing Bottles And Cans Underwater With A Hydraulic Press

Crushing Bottles And Cans Underwater With A Hydraulic Press

Because even Aquaman deserves hydraulic press crushing entertainment he can relate to, this is a video of the fun-loving folks at the Hydraulic Press Channel crushing cans and bottles underwater with a 40-ton press. Not only can Aquaman related to the underwater aspect of the video, but I’m sure he can also relate to the plastic bottles. Get it? Because of ocean pollution. You know I actually had a whale come to me in a dream the other night, and you know what it said? “You f*cks.” That was it, then it swam away. I’ve never felt more ashamed in my entire life.
