To honor the late, great Nichelle Nichols (Lieutenant Uhura on the original Star Trek series), this is a 1977 government produced NASA film featuring the star recruiting astronauts for upcoming Space Shuttle Enterprise missions. Did you know the shuttle was named after the Star Trek ship thanks at least in part to a letter-writing campaign by “hundreds of thousands” of Trekkies to President Ford? It was originally going to be named the Constitution. Thank goodness it wasn’t, and whoever’s idea that was should have been shot into space in one of those coffin torpedoes like Spock for unoriginality. Rest in peace, Uhura, the universe is lucky to have you back.
Thanks to my dad, who agrees space is our only hope, like Obi Wan.
