Spotted by a submersible remote operated vehicle (ROV) launched from the EV Nautilus about 500 nautical miles northwest of Oʻahu, Hawaii, this is a video of a recently discovered Casper octopus. The octopus was found “walking” along the seafloor at a depth of about 2,300m (7,575-feet, ~1.4-miles), with a body approximately 4-inches across. The perfect size to not be too terrifyingly small, or large. The octopus was so recently discovered that it hasn’t been given a formal classification or name yet, although if they don’t go with Spookyboi casperi then they have clearly failed as marine biologists.
